The "Five Tones", refers to the five levels of the ancient Chinese pentatonic scale, namely Gong, Shang, Jue, Zhi and Yu. After the Tang Dynasty, it was also known as He, Si, Yi, Chi and Gong. Equivalent to 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 in modern simplified music notation.
The giant panda Zhi Yu takes his name from the last two sounds of the ancient Chinese five tones.

Zhi Yu is handsome, with a graceful demeanor. At a glance, you'll love him. Observing Zhi Yu is like strolling in a lotus pond in September, smelling the fragrance of lotus, admiring the green and red, the wind passing by, the lotus is pure and bright, making one's heart flutter. Occasionally, the emerald bird stops on the lotus and sings, its voice clear and lingering.
